When I reached the highest shiva temple in the world. (The Tungnath Temple)

Updated: Nov 25, 2021

I started at 3 in the afternoon from Chopta, It was a beautiful elevated trek, as far as I could see. It was 4 in the evening and I still have to cover 2 kms more to reach one of my dream destinations. Yeah! the highest shiva temple in the world, Tungnath. Which means “The lord of the peaks”. It’s 3rd of Uttrakhand’s panch kedar. Tungnath is situated in Rudraprayag district of Uttrakhand at the top of tungnath hills. Its altitude is 3,680 meters from the sea level. The temple is believed to be built 1000 years ago by pandavas after the massacre of Mahabharata war to appease Shiva and atone the sins made by pandavas. I was still walking consistently. My throat was dry, I sat on a piece of rock and I drank two gulps of water. In a couple of minutes, I got up and started walking again. I could clearly see those snow-covered hills. I was feeling that they were shouting, and saying come on boy! Just a little more you just reached the destination. Those hills were trying to motivate me, and I started walking faster. Suddenly I heard the loud sound of the bell ‘tong – tong’. It filled me with courage, and I ran with my full energy. Just after 2 minutes I finally saw the dome of tungnath. All my tiredness turned into happiness. I opened my shoes, washed my hands and face with water from an old rusty tap there. Almost 10-12 people were there but no one was inside the temple. I entered inside and bowed to God and silently sat in a corner. I observed, there was an old bulb, two old wall fans which were creating too much noise inside and more two three things. Temple was filled with beautiful fragrances of chandan and Incense sticks. I was feeling like I’m in a garden(I felt like i’m in the garden of Shiva). After a few minutes, I came outside and the evening view from the temple was indescribable. Have you ever felt, some places are there which attract you?
